John Agius

John Agius SC


John Agius was admitted to the New South Wales Bar in August 1977.

Appointed Senior Counsel in NSW 1995 his areas of practice include:  Commissions of Inquiry, common law (including medical and legal professional negligence, product liability) criminal law, corporations law, industrial law and in particular occupational health and safety.

He has assisted or advised the NSW Crime Commission (Counsel Assisting), National Crime Authority, Police Integrity Commission (NSW) and the Royal Commission into the New South Wales Police Service conducted by Justice Wood (1994-1997) (Counsel Assisting);  Special Commission of Inquiry into the death of Joseph Gilewicz (Tas.) (Justice Mahoney) (Senior Counsel Assisting);  Royal Commission into the Building and Construction Industry (Commonwealth) (TRH Cole AO RFD QC).

Gregory Nell

Gregory Nell SC

Gregory Nell has been practising at the NSW Bar since 1991, predominantly in the areas of Admiralty, shipping, aviation, road transportation and marine insurance law.  A graduate of the University of Sydney, he was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales (1983) and employed in private practice both in Sydney and in London (1987 to 1989), principally in the area of maritime law.  In 2001 he was a member of the Advisory Committee to the Australian Law Reform Commission in its “Review of the Marine Insurance Act 1909”.  In 2004 he was a Senior Fellow of the University of Melbourne.  He is secretary of the Maritime, Air and Transport Section of the NSW Bar Association. Gregory Nell was appointed Senior Counsel in NSW in 2006.

Michael Wigney

Michael Wigney

Michael Wigney was admitted to the bar in March 1993, having previously practised as a solicitor at a major national commercial law firm and as a principal legal officer at the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions.  His areas of practice include criminal law, commercial and insolvency law, administrative and revenue law.  He specialises and has extensive experience in complex commercial or “white collar” crime and in particular Commonwealth criminal law.  He has been involved in several major prosecutions involving offences against the corporations Law/Act, the Customs Act and the Commonwealth Crimes Act and Criminal Code.

Miles Condon

Miles Condon

Miles Condon was admitted as a solicitor in 1990 and as a barrister in 1997.  He has practised principally in the field of equity and commercial law.

The Attorney-General has directed under S55ZF(1)(b) of the Judiciary Act 1903 that
legal work as solicitors assisting the Inquiry is tied to the Australian Government Solicitor.  AGS is a government business enterprise which operates on a fully commercial basis.  It is one of Australia’s largest law firms and a leading provider of legal and related services to Australian government agencies and departments.
